Benjamin de Boer is a Dutch musician, composer, and performer working at the intersection of classical music, songwriting, and collective musical experiences. He grew up on the island of Texel, between trees and open beach — a landscape of silence, wind, and space. As a child, he listened to the whispers of nature and the unknown, a sensitivity that still resonates in his work.
He studied classical double bass at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and later expanded his artistic voice during his master’s at Codarts, combining composition, singing, and performance. He graduated cum laude with his project The Promise, released as an album on Bandcamp.
As a performer, he has worked with ensembles such as the Metropole Orkest and Kamerata Zuid, and appeared in the chamber opera Charlotte Salomon with Wishful Singing, where he combined singing, acting, and double bass playing.
Together with Jesse Brouwer, he is co-founder of De MeeMakers — a platform for concerts, podcasts, and creative collaboration.
Alongside his performance work, he is active as a songwriter and coach with Ensemble Zoef, working with residents of the Leger des Heils.
His own work focuses on voice, presence, and participation, inviting audiences into shared musical experiences. With his project Dawn of Change, he brings together music, storytelling, and collective singing in a live setting that reflects on a world in transition. At the heart of his work lies a simple idea: that music can bring us back into connection — with ourselves, with each other, and with something larger than us.
